That Time of Year…
It’s the first of December - officially the start of the inevitable and inexorable build-up to Christmas (unless you work in a supermarket, in which case you’ve probably been stocking the shelves with crackers and wrapping paper since September), so I thought I’d take this opportunity to share a few things with you.
I would like to draw your attention to the above section in Lots of Stuff. Just click on the link above and you’ll find find several (barely) seasonal poems that run in fairly chronological order - from the Saturday before Christmas right through to the day before Twelfth Night. A couple of them are observational, some completely fictional and two are quite peculiar. I hope you enjoy them all!
Rites & Trials: Coming of Age Poetry
The Broken Spine is an excellent poetry press and arts collective based in the North East of England run by the amazing Alan Parry. He has put together some incredible and unique poetry books - and this is one of them. Number five in the Slimline series, this one is themed around ‘the messy middle of growing up’. Some of the work is harrowing, some beautiful, some wistful. And I’ve got a couple of poems in there (Fourth and Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting)! I feel like I’m rubbing shoulders with some true greats here. So, if you know someone who loves and appreciates poetry, and you’re stuck for a stocking filler, this book is ideal.
There was something else…
…but I can’t remember what it was. I’ll probably remember it at 3 am with a full bladder. It’s me age.
